Honorary Medal of Jan Evangelista Purkyne for Contribution to Biomedical Sciences for Prof. Jerzy Duszynski

Prof. dr hab. Jerzy Duszynski, a head of the Laboratory of Bioenergetics and Biomembrane of the Nencki Institute, received Honorary Medal of Jan Evangelista Purkyne awarded by the Czech Academy of Sciences for outstanding contribution to Biomedical Sciences. The Jan Evangelista Purkyne Medal ceremony took place in Prague on January 25th 2017. Laudation for prof. Jerzy Duszynski was given by prof. Jan Kopecky, the director of the Institute of Physiology, CAS and by prof. Jiri Drahos, the President of the Czech Academy of Sciences. Prof. Jerzy Duszyński currently serves as the President of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

 

Prof. Duszynski’s research is focused on metabolism, function, structure and dynamics of mitochondria in various experimental models. In particular his group is interested in a cross-talk between mitochondria and nucleus under physiological and pathological conditions such as oxidative stress, mitochondrial and neurodegenerative diseases and tumors.
