Inauguration of the Academic Year 2019/2020 for Warsaw-4-PhD School

On October 2nd 2019, at the Nencki Institute, the inauguration of the 2019/2020 academic year of the Warsaw School of Doctoral Sciences and Biomedical Sciences took place.

The gathered guests, including deans and directors of scientific units of the Ochota Campus, and representatives of the 9 Institutions forming the Warsaw-4-PhD Doctoral School, were greeted by the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Prof. Agnieszka Dobrzyń, Director of the Nencki Institute.  Prof. Dobrzyń emphasized the interdisciplinarity of the educational offer of the school, which educates doctoral students in 4 disciplines: biology, chemistry, physics, and medicine. The President of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Prof. Jerzy Duszyński, also addressed his greetings and wishes of fruitful science to the gathered students. In his speech, he emphasized the extraordinary role of freedom of thought, and encouraged doctoral students to be independent and courageous in forming scientific questions. After the solemn oath, led by the Head of the School's Programme Board, Prof. Daniel Wójcik, the participants of the ceremony listened to the inaugural lecture entitled  "Detection of gravitational waves", delivered by Prof. Tomasz Bulik from the Warsaw University Astronomical Observatory and the Center for Science and Technology of Particle Astrophysics. The inauguration was completed by a short integration meeting.
