Joint JPND network and NCN grant for Ali Jawaid

The TREMENDOS project, coordinated by Dr. Ali Jawaid of the Nencki Institute, has been selected for funding in a competition organized by the JPND (EU Joint Program - Neurodegenerative Disease Research) network in cooperation with the National Science Center.

The competition, titled: Understanding the Mechanisms for Non-Pharmacological Interventions, was intended to identify the best research projects on the mechanisms and biological basis underlying non-pharmacological therapies aimed at adapting a holistic personalized approach to the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases.

The project TREMENDOSThe role of microglia in the effects of environmental enrichment in neurodegenerative disorders will be conducted at the Nencki Institute in collaboration with partners from Switzerland and Australia.

Researchers in the TREMENDOS project will use a brain stimulation strategy called environmental enrichment to see how it is possible to enhance the natural ability of the brain's immune cells to remove toxic deposits. The ongoing study could pave the way for effective therapies for Alzheimer's disease and similar brain diseases.
