Nencki Institute Seminar

Dear All

I would like to cordially invite you to our next Nencki Institute Seminar on the 25th of November at 3pm.

Dr. Simone Becattini, an Assistant Professor and a group leader at the Department of Pathology and Immunology at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Geneva will give a lecture entitled: Transcriptional adaptation of intestinal microbes to host immune responses

Abstract

The gut microbiota is a complex collection of microbes that inhabits the gastrointestinal tract of all metazoans. This ‘additional organ’ performs a variety of key functions to maintain homeostasis and ensure optimal physiology of the host. Conversely, disregulated activities in this compartment can lead to disease.

The gut microbiota establishes an intimate relationship with the host immune system, and these two entities reciprocally regulate each other. However, while signals coming from intestinal microbes and impacting host leukocytes are being deciphered, the opposite side of this dialogue remains to be explored.

By employing dedicated mouse models and sequencing approaches, we are disentangling the impact of different types of immune responses on the transcriptional and metabolic activity of commensal and pathogenic microbes of the intestine. By elucidating these pathways, we aim to produce rationally engineered probiotics to improve host health, and to identify strategies to tackle gastrointestinal pathogens.

The meeting will take place online as the speaker will connect via zoom
