Celebration of The Nencki Institute 100th Anniversary

On the 15th and 16th of November, we celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Nencki Institute. On this occasion, the ceremonial Jubilee of the Centennial of the Nencki Institute was held. The 100th anniversary celebrations began with the presentation of Crosses of Merit, Medals for Long-Time Service, and Medals of the National Education Commission, to employees of the Nencki Institute, by Minister Sebastian Skuza, undersecretary of state of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, and the President of the Polish Academy of Sciences, prof. Jerzy Duszyński.

The guests were greeted by the Director of the Institute, prof. Agnieszka Dobrzyń, and Chairman of the Organizing Committee prof. Andrzej Wróbel. Next, the directors of befriended Institutes and Institutions, submitted letters of congratulations on the 100th anniversary to the Director of the Nencki Institute, for which we are very grateful. During the Conference, the greatest achievements of the Institute's employees and doctoral students were presented, as well as the alumni currently working in other scientific institutes in Poland and abroad. We have presented and recalled the eminent scientists who initiated new directions for research, and through the training of young generations of researchers, created their own “schools”, often continued to this day.

The 100th anniversary of the Institute was graced by a concert performed by the children from the Polish Children's Fund. During the "Open Institute" event, Conference Participants had the opportunity to visit the Institute's laboratories and see a number of exhibitions and film screenings. The celebration of the 100th anniversary gathered over 400 people who participated in the scientific part of the Conference, as well as in memorial and integration meetings which were full of memories and emotions. We admired the collection of white ravens of the Nencki Institute, and as part of the 'Kitchen of the World', taste delicious dishes prepared by employees and PhD students. We also closed the time capsule, which will only be opened in 50 years, and which contains materials about the Institute and letters to future management and doctoral students.

We would like to thank all those who were with us during these special days!
