The 4th Project Art & Science “Art of Origin of Life”

On September 17th-19th 2020, there was a Symposium kicking off the 4th Art & Science project "Art of Origin of Life". The Symposium was organized by the Nencki Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Nencki Foundation, the Nencki Art Collection, and the Institute of Fine Arts of the University of Rzeszów. The partner of this event was also the Polish Biochemical Society.

Nearly 300 participants attended the lectures that were held online, on the ZOOM WEBINAR platform. Scientists from the Institute of Biology and Biotechnology, the Institute of Philosophy of the University of Rzeszów, the Nencki Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Warsaw University of Life Sciences, the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Poznań, and NASA, presented the basic phenomena accompanying the emergence of life in the universe. During the Symposium, philosophical concepts related to the phenomenon of the emergence of life were also presented.

Project 4th Art & Science "The Art of Origin of Life" refers to the aesthetics of fundamental biological events occurring in the phenomenon of the origin of life.

The project participants were also artists such as Kamila Bednarska, Patrycja Longawa, Antoni Nikiel, Marek Adam Olszyński, Mirosław Pawłowski, Magdalena Uchman, Piotr Woroniec Jr. Art works created as part of the 4th Art & Science project "Art of Origin of Life” will be presented during numerous exhibitions organized from spring 2021 in galleries in Poland and abroad. It is also planned to publish a book describing the effects of the project. The exhibition at the Nencki Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences will take place in December 2021.
