Nencki Institute Seminar

Dear All,

It is my great pleasure to invite you to the next Nencki Institute Seminar which will take place next Thursday, November 24th at 3 pmDr. Katarzyna Kalita who is an Associate Professor in the Laboratory of Neurobiology will give a lecture entitled: From gene expression to behavior – a novel role of SRF transcription factor controlling gene expression in the regulation of social behavior.

Abstract

Disturbances of gene expression patterns that occur during brain development can severely affect the signal transmission, connectivity, and neuronal plasticity. Abnormalities at the molecular level can manifest as changes in the structural and functional plasticity of dendritic spines that harbor excitatory synapses. Notably, such disruptions can lead to developmental neuropsychiatric conditions such as Autism Spectrum Disorders, intellectual disabilities, and schizophrenia. During this talk, I will discuss the role of the major transcription factor serum response factor (SRF) as a novel regulator of the structural, functional, and behavioral aspects of brain maturation.

The lecture will be followed by a get together reception.

With best regards,
Aleksandra Pękowska
